HE President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Gabriela Cuevas Barron, emphasized the great importance of the 140th Assembly and related meetings, which will be held in Doha from Apr. 6th to 10th, expressing confidence that these meetings will be an important platform for bilateral meetings, workshops, events and joint inter-parliamentary work.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), she said that the upcoming Doha meetings of the IPU confirm the commitment to provide the best for the world in the field of parliamentary work, at the same time, it is an opportunity to share experiences among parliamentarians, to learn from each other and to seek solutions for many of the common problems facing the world.
She stressed that Qatar's hosting of the 140th IPU General Assembly meetings and related meetings is also an opportunity to learn from the experience of the State of Qatar in development and progress, she said that Qatar has an important voice and has a lot to tell the world. Qatar has demonstrated capabilities in areas such as energy, education , and healthcare and has committed to helping developing countries and protecting the environment. She said she is confident that the meetings will provide an opportunity to learn from Qatar's experience.
Barron said that the IPU wants to change the world is confident that the beginning will be from the next Doha meetings, through discussions, dialogue and bringing solutions to countries.
Regarding her evaluation and vision on the State of Qatar's position in the Gulf crisis and its call for dialogue to resolve the issue, Gabriela Cuevas Barron said IPU believes in dialogue and peaceful solutions for all crises, and wish to prevent crises, and do not hope to see people suffering.
In this regard, she stressed that during her current visit to Doha, she had learned about Qatar's strength and capabilities, making it a good example to the world.
The President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) praised the distinguished role played by the Shura Council on an international level, and its positive participation under the chairmanship of HE Speaker of the Shura Council Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud at the previous session of the union in Geneva last October, which led to Qatar hosting the next session in April 2019.
