The Shura Council discussed the report of the Committees on the organizing Tenders and Auctions and the Media City

The Shura  Council  held its regular weekly meeting today Under  His Excellency  The Speaker  Mr.  Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al-Mahmoud  at the beginning  of the meeting the Council discussed the report of the Committee of Financial and Economic Affairs on the legislative Decree No18 of the year 2018 amending certain provisions of the law of Tenders and  Auctions and decided to refer its recommendations there on to the esteem government.

The  Council then discussed the report of the Committee on the Cultural Affairs and Information on  the draft law on the Media City ,under which an information city will be established with a moral personality and independent budget. It aims to manage and develop the media  activity and attract international media ,technology companies,research and training institutions in the media and digital  and technological media , including the granting of licenses for television and radio broadcasting and publishing and distribution licences for newspapers,magazines and books for licensed companies .

In its recommendations on this project , the committee called for the  establishment of  technical and professional standards and controls to attract high-quality media companies and also called for the encouragement of   Qatari investors and give them the priority to invest in the media city and take into account the lack of influence of the media city on the rights and gains of the existing investors in the media and let the graduates of the  Qatari Media working and give them priority with privileges appropriate to them .

The Shura Council members’ during their discussion of the report of the Committee on  Cultural  Affairs and Information Stressed the importance of respecting the principles, values and ethics in the program of companies licensed to work in the media city  After extensive discussions, the Council approved the draft law and decided to forward the recommendations to the esteemed Government.

The Speaker of the Shoura Council briefed the Council on his meeting with HE Mrs. Gabriela Cuevas Barron, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) last Monday. During the meeting, she discussed the preparations of the Shoura Council to host the 140th Assembly meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and its related meetings scheduled to be held in Doha from 6-10 April. In addition to reviewing the cooperation relations between the Shoura Council and the Inter-Parliamentary Union in various areas of parliamentary work.

The President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) praised the progress of these meetings and the keenness of His Excellency the Speaker of the Shura Council and the officials of the Council to provide all the requirements of its success.

The Council also reviewed the reports of its delegations participating in a number of external meetings.
