The 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held in the Angolan capital of Luanda, concludes its work on Friday, saw interventions by representatives of the Arab and Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) councils.
Participating in the session were His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Hassan Al-Dosari, His Excellency Mr. Saad bin Ahmed Al-Misnad, His Excellency Mr. Issa bin Arar Al-Rumaihi, and His Excellency Mr. Omair bin Abdullah Al-Nuaimi, members of the Shura Council, members of the delegation participating in the General Assembly.
Speakers from Arab and Islamic countries in the session, which continued to discuss the topic “Parliamentary work for peace, justice and strong institutions,” called for the need for concerted efforts and solidarity to stop violations and massacres in Gaza and various regions of the world.
The interventions denounced the killing and displacement of the Palestinian people, the loss of rights, the killing of children, women and the elderly, and the targeting of health facilities and places of worship, stressing in this regard the need for the Palestinian people to obtain their full and undiminished legitimate rights, most important of which is the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Speakers from Arab and Islamic countries stressed the role of parliamentarians in stopping the violations and genocide against the Palestinian people, pointing out that violations and non-compliance with international humanitarian law and international legitimacy resolutions hinder efforts to achieve sustainable development goals.
The speakers praised the position of the Angolan President in his speech at the opening of the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in solidarity with the brotherly Palestinian people and calling for an end to the aggression and the necessity of bringing aid into Gaza.
The session continued to discuss its main topic, which is the sixteenth goal of the sustainable development goals, where views and opinions were exchanged on how to engage in achieving that goal by enacting legislation and strengthening national institutions, based on the role assigned to parliamentarians.
