Qatar Partakes in Meeting of GCC Legislative Councils Presidents

The State of Qatar on Thursday took part in the 12th periodic meeting of Their Excellencies the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Presidents of Legislative Councils (the Shura Councils, Council of Representatives, the Federal National Council, and the National Assembly).

HE Shura Council Speaker Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud represented the State of Qatar in the one-day meeting.

The final communique of the meeting emphasized a number of decisions taken by Their Excellencies regarding the topics on the meeting agenda, most importantly the recommendations of the symposium on "Localization of Jobs and Investment in Human Resources of the GCC States". Their Excellencies Presidents of GCC Legislative Councils also extended thanks to the Kuwaiti National Assembly for hosting and organizing the meeting.

The Meeting also chose (The Role of Legislative Councils in Achieving the Goals of Sustainable Development) as the common GCC theme 2019, which implementation shall be carried out by the Omani Shura Council.

The communique mentioned that Their Excellencies have been informed about the measures taken to strengthen relations with foreign parliaments and parliamentary associations, and gave directions to continue working on further strengthening existing relations.

It pointed that Their Excellencies Presidents of GCC Legislative Councils have issued a condemnation statement on the US recognition of Israel's sovereignty over the Occupied Golan Heights.

HE Shura Council Speaker Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, then left Jeddah, where he was seen off by HE Secretary General of the Saudi Shura Council Mohammed bin Dakhil Al Mutairi.
