Third Counter-Terrorism Coordination Meeting for Parliamentary Assemblies to Begin Tomorrow

29 January 2023

The 3rd Counter-Terrorism Coordination Meeting, organized by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and UN Program Office on Parliamentary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism (based in Doha), will be held Monday in Doha, in cooperation with the Shura Council.
The meeting, in which representatives of regional and international parliamentary associations and unions participate, seeks to review the relevant activities and initiatives implemented and launched by parliamentary councils, including cooperation with UNOCT, as well as discussing areas of priority and geographical focus for potential future initiatives of the parliamentary assemblies on issues related to combating terrorism and preventing violent extremism.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Parliamentary Policy Dialogue on border security and cross-border cooperation in the context of counter-terrorism - which seeks to acquire a better understanding of the international legal framework on border security and cooperate to prevent and combat terrorism, will also be held, in addition to assessing the main relevant national policies, examining current good practices, and discussing the role of parliamentary assemblies and national parliaments in this regard.
It is noteworthy that Doha hosted the first Counter-Terrorism Coordination Meeting for Parliamentary Assemblies in December 2021, while the second meeting was held in Naples, Italy, in June 2022.
