208th session of the IPU Governing Council, 143rd General Assembly Conclude

The Shura Council participated Tuesday in the closing session of in the 208th session of the IPU Governing Council, and the closing session of the 143rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), currently being held in the Spanish capital, Madrid.
The Shura Council was represented by its members HE Mohammed bin Mahdi bin Ajyan Al Ahbabi, HE Nasser bin Mohammed Al Jafali Al Nuaimi, and HE Nasser bin Hassan bin Dandoun Al Kubaisi.
The session of the IPU Governing Council witnessed the re-election of HE Martin Chungong as Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), for a third four-year term. There were also number of decisions adopted, as well as a review of the reports of specialized meetings.
The closing session of the 143rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union included the adoption of the draft Madrid Declaration: "Contemporary challenges to democracy: Overcoming division and building community." They also agreed to hold the 144th General Assembly in Indonesia next March.
