The Shura Council State of Qatar

 HE Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong, praised the efforts of the State of Qatar in promoting cultural and civilizational communication between different peoples as an expression of brotherhood and peace, noting the opportunity it provided to all humanity in hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 with distinction and competence.

In an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), His Excellency said that he visited the State of Qatar years ago, and witnessed the construction and building works, and today he sees everything already on the ground, expressing his pride in the various achievements made at all levels.

HE Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union expressed his happiness at following up some of the events and activities that accompanied the World Cup, expressing his gratitude to the Qatari people for the warm welcome, good reception, and generous hospitality felt by the various visitors to the World Cup.

On the other hand, His Excellency stressed the strength of the relationship between the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Shura Council, indicating that the State of Qatar has a major role within the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and had hosted the opening of the 140th General Assembly in 2019, as this conference recorded the attendance of the largest number of members in the history of IPU.

His Excellency praised the Qatari support for many of the Inter-Parliamentary Union's initiatives and activities, especially in the areas of sustainable development, international peace and security, encouraging young parliamentarians to carry out their tasks, and encouraging women to participate in politics.

HE the IPU Secretary-General pointed to the importance of the role played by the Arab Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (AASGP), which is chaired by the State of Qatar, indicating that a memorandum of understanding was signed with initials with the aim of cooperation, coordination and direct communication between the Association and the Union, and now IPU is seeking to achieve the terms of the memorandum on the ground, in order to integrate many projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening the presence of the Association within the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Concluding his statement to (QNA), His Excellency appreciated the belief of the Qatari parliamentarians in the importance of cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and moving forward in developing this relationship, expressing his appreciation for the Shura Council's invitation to attend part of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 activities.
