In celebration of the 5th anniversary of the International Day of Parliamentarism, the Shura Council joined parliaments around the world in emphasizing the role that parliaments and legislative councils play in expressing the will of the people, protecting human rights and the rule of law.

The Shura Councils celebration of the International Day of Parliamentarism this year coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Shura Council, and the end of the first regular session of the first legislative term corresponding to the 50th annual session of the elected Shura Council.

On this occasion, the Shura Council directed its highest appreciation to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for his continuous patronage and support to the Council, stressing its commitment to serving the loyal Qatari people.

The Council also stressed the need for parliaments around the world to contribute to promoting popular participation, protecting human rights and the rule of law, and achieving sustainable development goals for their people.

The International Day of Parliamentarism adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in May 2018 falls on June 30 annually, in which the parliaments of the world celebrate their important and effective role in representing the will of the people, and renew their determination to achieve the aspirations of the people and protect their gains and rights.
